Geographical Information

 

Kish Island, with an area of 90.5 km squared, is one of the most beautiful islands in the Persian Gulf. The island lies 18 km, south of the Iranian coastal line in Persian Gulf. This oval shaped tourist resort is 15 km in length and 7 km in width. The distance of Kish Island from Sirri Island and Qeshm is respectively 87 km and 225 km. The island is fairly flat. The height of this coral island from the sea is some 32 meters and the highest point of the island lies in the east. Coral islands are usually formed from the development of various types of corals and other organic materials on anticlines, salty arches, and volcanic materials.

Exploration of gas reserves in the Persian Gulf, carried out through a research project in 1996 entitled "The Evaluation of KHUFF" by IOOC. Then, the project handed over to the Exploration Management of NIOC for further studies. Deepening the existing well and drilling a new well by 2001 and 2004, the existence of hydrocarbon reserves in Kish Dehram Reservoir with a capacity of 48 trillion cubic feet was proved. Drilling of another appraisal well is underway to estimate the extension of the field.

FPSO Cyrus

Cyrus Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) is one of the most modern and up-to-date facilities of the Iranian Offshore Oil Company, which simultaneously extracts, processes, stores and exports crude oil. This terminal is located in the South Pars oil layer as a joint field between Iran and Qatar.

The responsibility for leading the South Pars oil layer development project, as well as oil loading and export operations from this joint oil layer, rests with the Iranian Offshore Oil Company.
